Your rights as a teacherTeaching is all about giving freely of yourself, for the benefit of your students. That being said, you cannot be an effective educator if you don't protect yourself. Here are some important rights you have as a teacher and employee.

Free/ Political Speech
While you do NOT have the right to proselytize, disparage student beliefs, or use school time or resources to advance political or religious causes, you do have the right to speak freely and engage in political advocacy in your off duty hours. You are also empowered to wear political buttons and attire during the school day, and at parent community events. We recommend that our members know their rights about political advocacy, and use them judiciously and appropriately
